hi, i'm tuija
founder of Macrame Makers Club.
I'm a Finn living in Spain, with a head full of ideas and hands that always need to be doing something.
I've been making things for as long as I can remember. It led me to study fashion design in Amsterdam, to designing wedding dresses in Tel Aviv. And then, for a while, I lost my way from it.
After years of channelling my creativity into other people's visions, a pandemic and a lot of quiet time finally gave me the nudge I needed. I came back to crafts. To making slowly, intentionally, with my own two hands. And I realised I just wanted to make knots, and share that with as many people as possible.
Because I don't think I'm the only one who has lost their way from making. I believe there is something deeply satisfying about learning a new skill, creating with your hands, and slowing down long enough to actually enjoy the process. That's what I want for you too.

don't take my word for it
This is such a fantastic tutorial! I love how I can make the videos go slower, add subtitles, AND there are those handy bookmarks in all the videos so I can easily find the spot in each video where I left off. Brilliant. Thank you so much!!
This was my first attempt at VCH and changing colors. It took a bit of practice and I read and/or watched the tutorials a few times before I mastered the technique. Your instruction was excellent and the tutorial process was easy to follow. I like that it is more thorough than something you would find on YouTube. I stuck with it until I completed the "assignment" so completing a project within the tutorial was an effective approach.
Great tutorial, Tuija! I started with some practice on the coaster size. Next, I'm going to make a matching placemat. I found the videos easy to follow with clear instructions. I also like the knots videos so that I can show some young girls how they are done easily before getting started. We tried another beginner project I found on YouTube last week that wasn't so easy for anyone that had zero experience. It's been years for me and it comes to me easily, but not these girls. I think this next project will be better. I'll let you know. :)
I found the tutorial really easy to follow and the pattern was a lot easier than I thought by looking at the picture. Thank you for the tutorial.
Thanks for your great instruction and website. I really love your approach and look forward to learning a lot from you!
Great video! LOVE,LOVE,LOVE this plant hanger!!!
I love this! Mine actually looks like a snowflake! Your tutorial was easy to follow and I love having a video for visual reference! I'm definitely making more of these!
I love it! your explanation was very pleasant and clear, that made it much easier, I tried with another jute cord and it turned out beautiful, thank you for inspiring me to make this beautiful coaster :-)
got questions? we've got answers!
If you
- have curiosity & courage to embrace the new and learn
- desire to nurture a creative habit
- wish to connect with & be your fellow makers' biggest cheerleader
Then you’re our type of human.
Once you're a member you will gain access to absolutely everything inside the club:
- beginner macrame roadmap (including courses like basic knots, all about cords, macrame shops database etc)
- intermediate maker's roadmap (including courses on design theory and how to estimate your own cord needs)
- community & forum
- + all the tutorials within our ever-expanding tutorials library! I upload one new tutorial every month.
- frequent giveaways (usually, but not always, these are gift cards to craft and macrame shops)
And if that's not enough, I also drop in new knot tutorials and masterclasses and all sorts of fun stuff frequently in the library.
Honestly, wherever you are on your macrame journey, there's something here for you.
If you're brand new, no worries at all. A good chunk of the content is beginner-friendly, and you'll learn in a way that's fun and relaxed. Never made a knot in your life? Perfect, that's what we're here for.
For those of you with a bit more experience, there are more intermediate projects too, like the basket with fringe. Those clove hitches won't know what hit them!
And actually, across all levels, the club now has something for everyone. Beginner-friendly doesn't mean boring either. Some of the loveliest pieces you'll make are the ones that are also the simplest.
Mostly from me, Tuija! I'm the founder of the club and I make the majority of the tutorials. So you'll get to know my teaching style pretty well, and I like to think it feels like we're just sitting at the table together, making something lovely.
But I'm not the only one! We also have other teachers joining in, each with their own style and speciality. It keeps things interesting and means you get a little variety in how you learn.
The club has a social hub where you can ask questions any time. Fellow members are lovely and helpful, and I'm in there a lot too, so you won't be left hanging!
That said, if you ever have a question that feels too specific to post, you're always welcome to reach out to me directly. I can't promise an instant reply, but I do my best to get back to everyone.
Honestly, the club works best for people who enjoy the process of making, even when things don't turn out perfectly. If you're looking for a relaxed, friendly space where it's fine to be a beginner and the vibe is more "let's make something lovely together" than competitive, you'll feel right at home.
If you're not sure you have time for a creative hobby right now, that's completely fair too. The tutorials are always there when you're ready, but it's worth knowing what you're signing up for!
We now have our very own mobile app! You can still access everything in a normal web browser too.
Our macrame patterns, knot guides, technique lessons etc are mostly in video format, accompanied by some text and photos occasionally. Sometimes there will be text only lessons, but never entire courses.
The tutorials are not downloadable.
Yes! We love our international crew! The common language we speak within our community (and the language of the tutorials) is English or should I say a bit broken English? Tuija is the first one to admit that her English is not perfect.
You can cancel your membership any time you want through the link in your account page. Just tell us why you'd like to cancel and we won't make it awkward. We do not offer refunds.
We recommend you stay at least a few of months, to fully enjoy and explore everything the club has to offer.
